This wealth of experience is now applied to fostering industry/academic research excellence in the Information Communications Technology sector in the Ottawa area. Possessing a comprehensive understanding of Global research activities, Dr. Crawhall is an expert in extracting concrete industrial value from white space research. Through his role at NCIT, he has successfully fostered academic/ industry partnerships in Ottawa with a goal of driving research into product development. Prior to joining NCIT, Dr. Robert Crawhall was Director, Disruptive Network Technologies for Nortel Networks, and previously was their Director, Research Network Initiative and Director, Advanced Technology Strategic Planning. Dr. Crawhall managed large multi-disciplinary teams to grow advanced technology to product development internally at Nortel Networks. Later he moved to a strategic role, where he was instrumental in the planning for advanced technologies, and finally working on the development of technology externally and harnessing its potential for Nortel Networks. Dr. Crawhall began his career as a mechanical engineer with Canadian General Electric, but switched disciplines in the mid-eighties and began his studies in the field of electromagnetic theory and modeling, before joining Nortel Networks. He received his PhD, in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1994, his Masters in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in 1986 and his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980.
